From Saturday 20 July to Wednesday 14 August the 53rd autodrama of the Teatro Povero di Monticchiello, “Transitional State”, will be staged. A dramaturgy participated by an entire country that questions itself on questions that are crucial for the community and in which the viewer can recognize himself and find himself. An experimental tradition that proposes a new text every year, the show by Teatro Povero di Monticchiello is conceived, discussed and performed by the actors inhabitants. Every summer “in piazza” in the beautiful village of Val d’Orcia.
The twentieth century was perhaps a less brief century than had been thought: many realities still live with the ideal roots well planted in it, although their branches are projected elsewhere. Between resilience and resistance, between changes and adjustments, the red thread has never completely stopped. In these realities we can certainly count a good number of collective experiences: subjects where the “we” has always counted more than the “I”. And yet … The theme of inheritances, continuations, continuities and necessary changes is, as always, unavoidable. Today more than yesterday. Passages and transitions, transformations, in which on the one hand the relationship between generations is brought into play, each with its load of stories and themes, of passions and struggles, not always able to cross; on the other, the comparison with the guide figures and their responsibilities. And finally, the inevitable friction between the founding values of those experiences and the spirit of the times: closing is always easier than opening up.
In all this, a “transitory state” crosses our stage like electricity, today like yesterday ready to reflect on what most animates it, hurts it, making it ready to be crossed again. After all, in the true spirit of autodrama.
